What seed-stage VCs look for

Seed rounds typically fund companies with an early product and initial traction — a few hundred users, early revenue, or strong letters of intent. Check sizes vary widely by fund size, and some multi-stage funds participate with larger checks. At this stage, investors are primarily betting on the founding team and the size of the market opportunity.

Expect 6–12 investor meetings, 3–6 months to close, and term sheets that include pro-rata rights and a board seat or observer role. Many seed funds make decisions within 2–4 weeks once interested. Many seed investors prefer a warm introduction, though some accept cold outreach or direct applications.

How this list is built

DryPowder lists every fund with a public profile tagged Seed. Funds whose largest published check is $5M or less come first; inside each group, funds with a verified SEC Form D in the last 30 days lead, then profile quality decides. Form D dates come from SEC EDGAR, and SPV and single-deal filings are dropped. Check sizes are what each fund publishes; the median uses only the 235 funds that publish one.
